Opening Your Heart Cacao Ceremony & Sound Immersion

Saturday 5/4/24
6:30pm-8:30pm

Join us in ceremony as we open our hearts with the spirit of cacao, while letting go of anything heavy, setting intentions, giving thanks for all the abundance in our lives today.

Cacao is a powerful superfood. It is a fruit produced by the Theobroma cacao plant which grows primarily in Africa, South America and Central America, produces pods that contain cacao beans. Those beans, which are sometimes called cacao seeds, undergo processing to become chocolate. They are then ground into a powder or nibs. There are many wonderful ways to drink and enjoy Cacao which we will discuss during our time together.
We will serve it hot in a mug-cacao is delightful for your heart and soul.

A Cacao ceremony is rooted in helping to re-balance the energies within us, and restore good health and inner reflection.
Through opening the heart, cacao enables us to hear our true self, work through blockages, dissolve any pent up negative energy, and help us align with who we truly are.

It’s also a wonderful time to give ourselves mental and physical space and peace. You get to switch off, and retreat inwards, helping you to learn more about yourself, and gain clarity on where you are and where you’re headed.

Learning to open our hearts is the most important thing we can do as human beings. This allows us to open wide to our true potential, be vulnerable, and embrace our authentic selves.
This is how we create the most beautiful life for ourselves, and those around us.
The more we connect to love and awareness in ourselves, the more we can make loving and conscious choices for the greater good.

During our ceremony, we will learn the history of cacao and its benefits. We will practice a meditation and give thanks for the cacao. We will let go of anything that needs releasing, bring to mind all you have to celebrate and set new intentions.
As we sip on our cacao we feel our hearts gently start to open.

We will settle in for a sound bath journey which will allow the cacao to activate within and create transformation as we hold our intentions with open hearts to end our ceremony.

About Chris: NYC-based vibraphonist and composer Chris Dingman is known for his distinctive approach to the instrument: sonically rich and conceptually expansive. In his captivating solo performances, he casts an enveloping atmosphere, creating layers of simultaneous sound on the vibraphone. It’s an immersive listening experience that many have described as transportive and deeply healing.
Having worked with legendary artists Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter, Dingman brings together this background with a host of influences from around the world, including his studies of the mbira music of Zimbabwe, in service of taking listeners on a journey to a transcendent place.
While working as an acclaimed vibraphonist in NYC since 2002, Chris documented his solo improvisations privately for many years, until his world changed. When his father entered hospice care in 2018, he created the 5-hour extended album Peace, recorded as he played it for his father, and ultimately released in 2020. This led to an ongoing evolution of his solo music and his critically acclaimed albums journeys vol. 1 and vol. 2 , which have been described as “hypnotic” (The New York Times), “spellbinding” (Bandcamp), “absolutely beautiful” (Jazz at Lincoln Center), and “solo masterpieces” (Downbeat).
Chris is actively touring and has performed around the world, including in India, Vietnam, and extensively in Europe and North America, including at Omega Institute, The Rubin Museum of Art, Tibet House, and many other venues. Chris also leads the twice-monthly online series Transformations, inviting participant dialogue as part of a healing music session. This exchange has proven to be very meaningful, leading participants to describe the experience as “immediately energizing and healing on a physical, emotional and spiritual level.”
Chris has been profiled by NPR, the New York Times, Downbeat, AMNY and many other publications, and has received fellowships and grants from Chamber Music America, New Music USA, South Arts, and the Thelonious Monk Institute. Hailed by the New York Times as a “dazzling” soloist and a composer with a “fondness for airtight logic and burnished lyricism,” the fluidity of his musical approach has earned him praise as “an extremely gifted composer, bandleader, and recording artist.” (Jon Weber, NPR).

6:30pm-8:30pm

Come together with me to connect in community and create sacred space in each season.
This class will meet once a season near the cross quarter day.

Within the sacred space we will work together to build a medicine wheel honoring the current season. (please feel free to bring any stones from home if you choose).
Then I will guide you on a shamanic journey to the sacred fire and the heart of the season. A shamanic journey has similarities to a guided meditation. It is accompanied by drum, the repetitive sound helping us to connect to our imagination and soul for guidance and wisdom to bring into our everyday lives.
